2020 Lead Science Communication Fellowship
The Lead Science Communication Fellowship is only open to applicants that have previously participated in the Nautilus Exploration Program aboard E/V Nautilus.
Educators selected to participate as Lead Science Communication Fellows serve as mentors to the incoming cohort of Fellows and ambassadors for ocean exploration by sharing the excitement of exploration and research with students and public audiences in their communities and around the world.
Lead Science Communication Fellows have the opportunity to gain further exposure to and experience in the application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the field of ocean exploration. Lead SCFs act as team leaders for OET onboard E/V Nautilus. OET seeks Lead SCFs with perspective to lend new fellows and enthusiasm for coaching successful ways to bring the expedition experience back to home audiences.
The year-long Lead Science Communication Fellowship includes:
participation in the 2020 science communication training workshop including a Lead-only workshop at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography in April 2020;
experience sailing 2-3 weeks as part of the exploration team on board an oceanographic expedition in the Eastern Pacific Ocean between June - November 2020;
a one-year commitment to collaborate with STEM professionals, educators and research scientists;
development of a STEM-lesson or outreach material deliverable for your education audience;
and the agreement to serve as a role model for learners based on your Nautilus experience.
Lead SCFs work closely with OET to engage the Fellowship cohort and their students, organizations, and communities in the excitement of ocean exploration and STEM.
